Although the Philippines is primarily known to be a hot, humid nation, there are some places in that wonderful country to actually feel a comfortable chill. The Summer Capital of the Philippines, Baguio, is one such place.
If you do get the chance to visit this cool city, you may want to try doing these:
Visit Burnham Park
Right at the heart of Baguio city, you’ll notice a beautiful man-made lake filled with colorful boats. This place is Burnham Park, a common must-go, must-see, must-feel place tourists flock to.
The park is filled with healthy and colorful plants and trees. With the cool weather in Baguio, it comes at no surprise that people enjoy taking walks and having picnics here. If you’d like to cover more ground, you can rent a bike from the many clean rental centers there. Also, rowboats can also be rented, for a relaxing ride in the lake.
Have some strawberries
Baguio’s cool climate offers a different kind of agricultural produce. Another popular place to visit in this place is the Strawberry Farm, where freshly picked strawberries are available. Baguio’s specialty, Strawberry Jam, can also be purchased here. You also have the option to do the strawberry picking yourself – although, you may want to eat strawberries from expert pickers for the best-tasting produce. For a different – and yummy – kind of thrill, try tasting strawberry taho. It’s basically the normal taho found everywhere in the Philippines, with the exquisite and sweet taste of fresh strawberry syrup.
The Summer Capital of the Philippines is also known for one fun thing – Ukay-Ukay. Ukay-ukay is basically second-hand or donated clothes sold at dirt cheap prices. The largest Ukay-Ukay stores in Baguio can be found in Session Road. To get the best deals here, make sure to dive into piles of clothes, and check every nook and corner of the store. You never know if you’ll find a treasure. Once you’ve found your desired clothing article, always haggle. For relatively cheap clothes, you can even get it at an even lower prize.
Also, if you’ll do get into Ukay-Ukay (which you’ll probably do), remember to wear loose clothes and apply a hand sanitizer gel. These stores, cramped with clothes, are often humid and hot. Though, that little detail still won’t stop shoppers from visiting!
These are just some of the fun things you can do at cool Baguio City. It’s a city filled with surprises for everyone. For a cool summer in hot Philippines, check out this city!
